Land Acknowledgements panel

Have you heard (or heard of) land acknowledgements and wondered what they are or why they're used? This panel will address this question, along with some history on the development of UW-W's land acknowledgement statement.

Our panel features -
  • Dr. Tony Gulig, History professor and one of the leads on the creation of the UW-W Land Acknowledgement Statement
  • Martha Stephenson, Reference librarian and advisor to the student organization, Native American Cultural Awareness Association
  • Chancellor John Chenoweth, Chancellor of UW-W
Following some background on land acknowledgements, we will be focusing on where we go from here.  We will facilitate a discussion about what we could do as a campus to make our Land Acknowledgement Statement meaningful and not just writing on paper.
